NCK/NCR Thematical Meeting
Morphological and ecological aspects of tidal channel networks’
This NCK/NCR thematic meeting, with about 50 participants, has taken place on Thursday 19 May 2011, in the Biesbosch Visitor Centre , Biesboschweg 4, 4924 BB Drimmelen.
The meeting was organised by the Netherlands Centre for River Studies (NCR) and the Netherlands Centre for Coastal Research (NCK).
Synopsis
The lower Rhine branches in the Rotterdam Rijnmond area are influenced by the tidal motion. The tidal channel network in this region is the interface between river and marine conditions, being the playground of researchers in both the NCR and the NCK communities. The aim of the symposium was to bring together river and coastal researchers, to discuss the morphology and ecology of tidal channel networks in view of human interference and a changing climate. Six speakers focussed on morphodynamics, ecology, quaternary geology, management and sediment transport. The day started with an excursion.
